Welcome to the Landings Vox

HELLO! I HAVE DECIDED TO START THIS BLOG AS I FEEL THAT THERE IS VERY LITTLE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE LANDINGS RESIDENTS TO VOICE THEIR CONCERNS AND BE HEARD. THE ASSOCIATION MEETINGS ARE MONITORED, QUESTIONS ARE PREVIEWED, THEREBY LEADING TO VERY LITTLE HONEST AND REAL INTERCHANGE. I,MYSELF, HAVE CALLED SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE LANDINGS ASSOCIATION COMMITTEES AND HAVE MET WITH DEFENSIVENESS AND BELITTLEMENT.

SO, I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE!!!!!! PLEASE JOIN ME IN OPENING UP THE LINES OF COMMUNICATION AND HOPEFULLY ESTABLISHING A REAL SENSE OF COMMUNITY. I HAVE LIVED HERE SINCE 1986 AND I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE VISION OF THE LANDINGS BE DISTORTED BY ENTITLEMENT, EGO'S, AND RUDENESS. THE MAJORITY OF THE LANDINGS RESIDENTS ARE GREAT, AND WE ARE MAKING HEADWAY WITH YOUNGER FAMILIES BUYING HERE, THEREBY ESTABLISHING THE CONTINUITY AND SUCCESS OF THE LANDINGS. BOTTOM LINE... WE NEED EACH OTHER, AND WE NEED TO BE A TEAM!!! I KNOW THAT I PLAN TO BE HONEST AND OPEN UP SOME CANS OF WORMS, SO BE PREPARED. THIS WEBSITE IS NOT BEING CENSORED OR MONITORED, I ONLY ASK THAT SUGGESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS BE PRESENTED IN A POSITIVE MANOR AND NOT WITH EXAGGERATED DRAMA! WHATEVER!!!!!(EYES ROLLING)

Val - I hope the forum will help everyone work out their differences! BTW - just what is a 59 Eighter??

This should be fun. Good comments and suggestions. A 59 Eighter is anyone with a 598 phone number. You know, the price goes up when that number is given.

Of course!! Thanks for the explanation!

ok- it is time to get this going! I have heard some very disturbing news about the Human Resources dept. for the landings club. Have you ever wondered why we are hiring people from different countries when many are looking for jobs locally? Much more to tell, just trying to get your interest up!!! Oh and by the way, we pay to have them flown here, we put them up in condos, and we pay for their transportation!! I wish I had a job like that when I was younger!!!!

Do we know if this story is more than just a rumor? If it is true, it is pretty disturbing. There must be some benefit for TLC to recruit out of the country, i.e., reduced insurance, wages and benefits cost?? It would be interesting to get the bottom line on this. On another note, have you taken a golfcart ride on Tidewater Way in the past 2 days? The house near Brandenburg that goes all out for Halloween decorations now has gone way out for Christmas before the 15th of November. Santa and his eight red reindeer flying through the sky, wreaths, garland everywhere. Check it out.

Well, the info. is as reliable as 1/2 the story! All I know is that we do not apparently know all the details, and that they are not advertising the facts. I have called the committee for the Human Resource dept, and she was very defensive and curt. I DO have the statistics about the Human resource Dept. and they have hired 17-18 people over the past year and fired? resigned? 15 people. What does that tell you? I personally have talked to several directors that have been fired and they are very bitter, and feel there is something fishy going on!!

Lately it seems that many of the servers have difficulty understanding English-has anyone else experienced that? Lately they don't seem as friendly. Glad to find out what a 59 eighter is!

That only adds insult to injury!  The real point is that we are struggling in this economy, many without jobs, and we hire from outside the good ole USA.  Makes me wonder what the incentive is for the Landings Club to hire outside.  I have a feeling that someone benefits, but that someone is not you nor I.

A flyer was left in my tube to come celebrate festive fun & holiday cheer at the "2008 Holiday Wreath Drop-In" on Nov.22 on Franklin Creek Lane. If you misssed it, you didn't see the most beautiful wreaths & Christmas arrangements ever made. Hope they do this again next year.

I have submitted a letter to the editor for the TWATL, the Skinnie, and the Landings Journal to advertise this blog. As of yet, no one has published it! What is everyone afraid of ? I really plan to advertise this blog, and if I were with the publications, it would be worth it to have a column of "Best of the Blog". Hopefully, someone will come throught, as I have just resubmitted the letter.

The azaleas on the Landings were very beautiful this spring as they were in Bonaventure and Isle of Hope. It's worth the drive to see all the beauty.

The Club would love to hire locally for both in-house and golf course maintainence workers but very few want to commute out to Skidaway. The Club even provides transportaion via bus but there are still few takers, notwithstanding the fact that they pay top dollar and provide benifits for full time employees. That being the case, the Club has no choice but to contract with a company that provides us with forign guest workers (known as H2B workers). It is that company, not the Club, that is responsible for their housing, etc.

I just had dinner at Marshwood and heard that Paul Notine has been discharged. Does anyone know why?

It's amazing what you learn at dinner, but apparently the Club is making another attempt to control usage of card rooms. Participants must be members or guests of members, and each guest only allowed to play once a month. There will be a charge for coffee/tea even though you dine at club. The hostess of each group must sign with names, etc. No snacks from bar in rooms, etc. This is long overdue. There are 13different items listed in letter. A meeting for all members in charge of groups will be held later this week.

Hi Arthur- this is in response to your blog. I have heard that they do not offer the locals the same deals that they offer the others. I have many pt's. that would love to work out here - but they are offered min. wage, no benefits, etc. Do you not think that locals would not love to work out here if transportation and benefits are offered?
